Emilia

They say love and hate are the same feelings experienced under different circumstances, and it’s true.
The man who comes to me in my dreams also haunts me in my nightmares.
He is a brilliant lawyer.
A skilled criminal.
A beautiful liar.
A bully and a savior, a monster and a lover.
Ten years ago, he made me run away from the small town where we lived. Now, he came for me in New York, and he isn’t leaving until he takes me with him.

Vicious

She is a starving artist.
Pretty and evasive like cherry blossom.
Ten years ago, she barged into my life unannounced and turned everything upside down.
She paid the price.
Emilia LeBlanc is completely off-limits, my best friend’s ex-girlfriend. The woman who knows my darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap Help we hired to take care of our estate.
That should deter me from chasing her, but it doesn’t.
So she hates me. Big fucking deal.
She better get used to me.

Vicious is book one in the new series, Sinners of Saint, by L.J. Shen, and what a way to start!

You don’t get the nickname “Vicious” by cuddling kittens and helping an elderly lady cross the street. Despite being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, Life for Baron Spencer had been anything but easy. As a result, he hardened his heart to keep people out. With the exception of one or two friends, he doesn’t give a crap about anybody of anything. That all changes the day he first sets eyes on Emilia LeBlanc.

Emilia is as beautiful as she is sweet. She is the girl next door who has a little bit of sass and a whole lot of passion about art. She is the polar opposite of Vicious and everything he should hate, but she becomes his obsession. This book alternates between past and present, and this is critical in order for one to understand their complicated relationship. In high school, it wasn’t a secret that these two were attracted to one another, but things just never fell into place for them. Fast forward 10 years. Fate has brought them back together, and before one of the spontaneously combusts, they are going to have to act on the chemistry that is always sizzling between them.

I really enjoyed this story. At first, I thought Vicious was a major douche bag, but when certain events from his past are exposed, I understand why he acted the way he did. And the great thing about this story was how Emilia accepted him just as he was..warts and all. It was greet to meet the other guys who made up the hotholes (and yes I agree, that is a terrible name for a group of hot guy friends) I am super excited to read more about the guys in the near future. Great work, L.J. Shen!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

Vicious is the first book in the new Sinners Of Saint Series from L.J. Shen. The series revolves around four high school friends known as the HotHoles . This is Vicious and Emilia’s story.

Emilia dreams of Vicious. Ever since she first laid eyes on him. He’s one of the world’s best most ruthless attorneys. He’s a criminal. A liar. A monster with no soul. Vicious ran Emilia out of the town they were living in, during her last year of high school, ten years ago. Now he’s in New York where she never expected to see him and he’s not leaving without her.

Vicious accidently finds the girl he has never been able to stop thinking about. The girl he was horrible to. She’s his best friends ex girlfriend and completely off limits. The woman who knows his darkest secret, and the daughter of the cheap help thst was hired to take care of the estate he lived in as a child. She’s a starving almost homeless artist. The most beautiful and evasive woman, just like a cherry blossom. All these things should keep Vicious from going after her but he is a man on a mission. She hates him, but she better get use to him.

Holy mean man. If your looking for a nice guy your so not going to find him in Vicious. He is one cold, cruel, soulless guy. He comes from one of the richest families in California. He stands to inherit a fortune. Events in his childhood though have made Vicious who he is. He didn’t get the name Vicious from being the sweetest kid on the block. He meets Emilia because her parents are the new help at his father’s estate. It is hate at first sight and he has no trouble letting Emilia know how he feels and quickly names her Help. Emilia is a sweet southern girl who came to California because her parents moved her very sick sister there because of a job and better healthcare. From the moment she bumps into Vicious he is horrible to her and she has no idea why. He hates her but he wants her. She can tell. I sometimes was a little shocked by just how dark Vicious could be. I had a lot of fun trying to figure him out too. This poor guy never had a choice but to be who he is because of the adults in his life. My heart broke for him and poor Emilia. She just wanted to be good to everyone and all the bullying to stop. She has no idea what she’s done. Fast forward ten years and to the east coast and Emilia sees the guy who made her life miserable for the first time in those years. This begins the journey of these two characters. Oh what a journey it is too. Full of mystery and secrets. I loved being witness to the growth and change of Vicious too. I fell in love with this story and devoured it. It’s not fluff and lollipops by any means.

I’m so glad I got to read and review Vicious. It was my first JL Shen book but it won’t be my last. I so can’t wait to see which guy she writes about next in this series. All four of these guys are equally intriguing. It should make for some more amazing reading.

“You’re pissing me off,” she said quietly, her eyes still searching my face.

“And that’s turning me on,” I retorted, my voice flat. “So you might wanna tone down the hate glares if you don’t wanna find yourself being fucked on this desk with the blinds still open.”

I was still staring at my screen, working on the merger deal I was eager to get signed before Christmas, but I could see from my peripheral that she had paled. I liked how—once again—I’d gotten under her skin. Quickly.

“You’re disgusting,” she muttered, still staring at me—but not in a way that suggested she was appalled.

I cracked my neck, opening my browser and checking the stocks on the screen, skimming through the greens and the reds. “That may well be, but I’m balls deep in your fucking head, Help, and there’s nothing you can do about it.”

Her eyes glittered with rage, and fuck, I was so hard, and fuck, she was so beautiful. This was so on. I was going to fuck Dean’s ex-girlfriend, use her for my personal needs, and toss her away when I was done.

And after choosing the wrong guy, there was no doubt in my mind, she deserved it too.

“You just gave Floyd a lecture about the inter-office fraternization policy. No mixing business and pleasure.” She leaned forward. Her elbow touched my finger accidentally, and she jerked it away.

I met her halfway, erasing the space between us across the desk. “Correction—guys like Floyd won’t give you pleasure. Men like me would. Besides, the man likes Arrow,” I drawled, as if this alone was a reason to fire him.

To me, it was.

“You know what your problem is, Vicious? You still haven’t decided if you hate me or like me. That’s why you act like this every time I’m around other men.” There wasn’t a trace of embarrassment in her voice. She owned up to this.

What she didn’t know was that I knew exactly how I felt about her.

I hated her, but was attracted to her. It was really that simple.

“You know what I feel right now, Ms. LeBlanc? I feel like you need to pack a fucking bag and start making the necessary arrangements. You’re coming with me to California, whether you like it or not.”
