Synopsis

I’m naturally gifted on the field and between the sheets. With flashy cars and enough media attention to put the Royal Family to shame, I’m the definition of Most Eligible Bachelor.

Every man wants to be me and every woman wants to tame me. Until Camila.

The moment I lay eyes on her, I know I have to have her.

She wants to keep me at arm’s length.

I want her naked in my bed.

She thinks our worlds are too different.

All I want her to think about is screaming my name.

She says I’m bad news.

I have three weeks to prove her wrong.

Virginia’s Review

Claire has done it again!

Ok. First of all, that cover. Yeah to die for. I’m not really a huge cover person. But what I really love about the cover of The Player is the guy on the front IS Warren to me. So many times the guy on the cover of a book and who I picture in my head as the character don’t match. Claire did a great job with who she chose for this cover. I loved picturing him in my head as a read. He was perfect.

Ok. The story, the really important part of a book. Warren is a former New Yorker now living in England playing “football” (American soccer) as a professional. A trip back to New York turns into more when he meets Camilla. I won’t tell you how they meet, you can read about that. Warren is a player in more ways than one- he’s never had a hard time getting woman. He’s hot, rich and a professional sports player. Women fall all over him. Well, not this time. Camilla isn’t falling at his feet like he’s used to. For once, he’s met a challenge.

Warren. Oh god. Talking about swooning over a fictional character. He’s hot on the outside- his face and body could make any woman want him. But underneath, he’s sweet and romantic. Kind and generous. Lovable and adorable. You can’t not fall in love with him.

Camilla is great in her own ways. Standing up for herself. Not falling for Warren or caring who he is. Being with someone for love, not looks or who they are. I admired that about her. She also has a very caring and selfless personality.

Claire tells their story in alternating points of view and does a great job with both. I loved their interactions and their chemistry. I also loved that it wasn’t insta love and that their relationship took time and work to develop. As with all of Claire’s books, it’s well written and the characters are well developed. You’re hooked from the beginning and don’t want it to end.

Is Camilla Warren’s game changer? Read The Player and find out!! But also know that this isn’t really a “sports romance”. Yes, Warren is a soccer player but it is not the focus of the book. So don’t be turned off to reading it just because you don’t like sports. I don’t and I loved the book.
