It’s been a hot minute since I’ve picked up a BDSM book. And when I say hot minute, I mean it’s been over a year. Why? I think I felt like I had “read out of the genre” so to speak. Well…I think it’s safe to say that I’ve been pulled right back in.
I’m not exactly sure what I “expecting” with this one. Probably something like the typical virgin to the lifestyle girl meets Dom, falls in love and poof, HEA. And although there is some truth to this story line, I found that I REALLY fell in love with this heroine. Why? Probably because she wasn’t afraid to stick to who she was and/or what she wanted.
Evelyn has grown up basically raising herself since she had a deadbeat drunk for a dad. This is also the main reason she’s so adamant about not bowing down to any man, for any reason. But when she finds herself in the worst financial situation ever, she’s willing to do anything. Which includes making a bet with the most handsomely irritating man she’s ever met. Now if she can just win the bet, she’ll be set for life.
Chadwick grew up privileged, at least when it came to money. Other than that, he didn’t have the family life many did. In fact, due to his parents never being around, his family quickly became the help’s family members. That’s probably why he’s an arrogant asshat (which he’s well aware of), who doesn’t care who he pisses off. That is until he meets a young lady that seems to constantly challenge him…with everything.
These two characters were truly meant to be. Between his a-hole mannerisms and her strong willed ways, they really did fit together like a glove…eventually. It was the journey that kept me glued to the book though. I was always curious to find out what buttons he was going to push and how hard she was willing to push back. The build up between them was seamlessly beautiful and the introduction of the additional characters (hopefully all getting their own stories) all added to the suspense and flare.
I honestly can’t wait to get my hands on the next one!!!
