Some of my favorite books have been made into movies.  You know like To Kill a Mockingbird; Harry Potter series; Silence of the Lambs; Fried Green Tomatoes; Fifty Shades of Grey; I’m sure there are more.  I know a few authors who books are in the process of being made into either small or big screen features…and I’m wondering what does it take for a book to be made into a film?

I don’t have the first clue.  Is it that bloggers need to make a huge deal about a book so readers that follow said blogs take notice and it becomes a best seller?  Is it a nagging literary agent who’s job it is to show promising novels to Hollywood and cross their fingers one of their books gets picked up?

I’m sure it would be an awesome process to go through.  Probably a little nerve wracking.  Lots of stress.  You know…I’m sure the authors want the movie industry to do right by their story.  So it has to be rewritten as a screenplay then pitched.  But what catches the industry’s eyes?  How do they know they can make it a success?

There’s quite a few novels I’ve read that haven’t made it on any bestsellers list but would make fabulous movies.  This is solely based on my opinion of course.  Who am I, though?  I’m a peon in a big world with an opinion about the stories I read and am very selective about what movies I go see in the theaters.  They’re so expensive these days that I don’t want to just go see a movie just for the sake of seeing one.

Here’s a few novels I’ve read that I think would be great to see on the BIG screen:

  1.  Joseph Fallen by M.S. Willis  This is a psych thriller borderline horror story.  I would LOVE to see this one in a movie theater.  For real…all the effects Hollywood could do for this book would be amazing to see.  If you’ve not read it…it’s not for the faint of heart.  It will give you nightmares.  Trust me.  It’s gory.  It’s gruesome.  But it’s absolutely perfect for Hollywood.  In my opinion of course.
  2. Every Rose by Lynetta Halat  Oh what a UGLY CRY story this one is.  Perfect love story.  Then – WHAM – you didn’t see that coming at all.  Holy cow – just an awesome story that Hollywood could work to it’s advantage.
  3. King Hall by Scarlett Dawn Really this whole series would be an awesome Hollywood hit.  Really…Twilight was the ultimate paranormal movie to date.  Well…move over Stephanie Meyer.  Scarlett Dawn’s characters in the Forever Evermore series are captivating.  They are intriguing and can run circles around their own kind.  This series no only has Vampires and Shifters but has other magical creatures as well.
  4. How I Became Lotus Raine by Erika Ashby  Seriously…we need a comedy in this bunch.  So here it is.  Erika Ashby’s Lotus Raine is the perfect romantic comedy based on how the lead female became a porn star.  I laughed and laughed and laughed throughout this book.  I swear the poor girl went through so much that you couldn’t help but laugh at her.
  5. Target This by Lily White or Aslyum by Lily White  Either of these Psychological Thrillers would work for me.  This author has the ability to make you think you know what’s happening with the characters in her story then BAM! She’s changed it right before your eyes.  Literally you didn’t see it coming.  Or maybe you did?  Do you really think you saw it?  What was it you think you saw?  HA!  This is the kind of thing Hollywood feeds off of does it not?  Making the viewer think they know what they’re getting into but then changing it up before you can blink.    Definitely these would would make great movies – my opinion of course!

So…I’d like to hear from you.  What books do you think would make awesome movies?  I have no control of any of this mind you.  I’m just interested in what you think.  Leave a comment if you’d like and share what books you’ve read you’d think would make awesome big screen movies.
