In the Bone there is a house.

In the house there is a girl.

In the girl there is a darkness.

Margo is not like other girls. She lives in a derelict neighborhood called the Bone, in a cursed house, with her cursed mother, who hasn’t spoken to her in over two years. She lives her days feeling invisible. It’s not until she develops a friendship with her wheelchair-bound neighbor, Judah Grant, that things begin to change. When a neighborhood girl, seven-year-old Neveah Anthony, goes missing, Judah sets out to help Margo uncover what happened to her.

What Margo finds changes her, and with a new perspective on life, she’s determined to find evil and punish it–targeting rapists and child molesters, one by one.

But hunting evil is dangerous, and Margo risks losing everything, including her own soul.

Review by Virginia:

Marrow. Oh Marrow. What have you done to my head?? It’s all over the place.

Before I start talking about the book I want to mention why Tarryn started writing Marrow. I think it’s amazing. She wrote about it in a Facebook post and it is in the back of the book as well. It makes me know that Marrow was written with passion and feeling. Tarryn wanted to right the wrongs of real life within the pages of a book. Of course bad things still happen in life, but I am glad Tarryn got to give some justice to the bad people of the world in Marrow.

Marrow is the story of Margo. She comes from a rough neighborhood, background and upbringing. Her life and the lives of those who live in the area she lives in (called The Bone) are not good. After a crime occurs in The Bone, Margo decides to take matters into her own hands. She becomes full of vengeance. An eye for an eye becomes her new motto in life. She decides she is going to be the one to make murderers, rapists, child abusers, etc. pay for their crimes. She’s basically crazy. But she’s also strong and determined. And quite clever in her madness.

To be honest, I have some mixed feelings on Marrow. There are things about it I enjoyed and things that I thought were just ok. Marrow is not my typical kind of read. I usually go for happier reads but I do read different genres and am open to most.

Things I loved about Marrow- * Anyone who has read Tarryn’s books before knows what a talented writer she is. Her descriptions are beyond amazing. They are so detailed and make everything so vivid in your mind. * Her plots are so creative, twisted and not the norm. Marrow had an amazing twist in it that I didn’t expect, so well done to Tarryn on that. * The title was perfect- just perfect with the story. * I loved the ties to Mud Vein. They make me want to read it again.

My issue and struggle were with all the despair and negativity. It was a lot of gloom and doom. I found it to be monotonous and a little depressing.  But that’s me. Some people like that. I guess it’s why I don’t read dark books and there are so many types of books out there.

I do feel a little unsettled because I have some questions and uncertainty about some things in the book. I’m not even sure if one or two things were real. Maybe that’s the way it is supposed to be. And I do have to mention there were editing errors in the book.

So my thoughts overall are this:

Did I love Marrow? No

Did I like it? Yes

Do I think it is well written? Yes

Would I recommend it to others? Depends on the type of book you like. I am glad I read              it.

I guess Marrow is one of those books that is complex in many ways. I would say give it a try and see what you come away with. I am glad I did.
