Renee’s Five Star Review

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

Liam Hetcherson is part of an elite team who is responsible for saving lives. His team is a brotherhood he’s proud to be a part of. Hetch however lives with seeing his fathers suicide and it affects him weather he wants to admit it or not. It affects his life in ways he’s not even aware of. Getting up everyday and doing his job is what keeps him going. Alcohol or sex are his two ways of dealing  with the hand he’s been dealt in life. He’s dealings with it the best he can. Then along comes Liberty and everything changes. He’s determined to save her from a situation she’s found herself in. Little does he know that she could be the one saving him.

Hetch is the first book in River Savage’s new series Men of Swat. I was so engrossed in this book the world around me could have exploded but I wouldn’t have been aware of it. Liberty is a strong female character. She’s sassy and all up in Hetch’s face at times and I loved that about her. Fiercely loyal and so involved in her job she is the kind of woman that Hetch needs. The way they first meet is just about the wildest thing that could happen between two people and them not be aware of who the other person is. I found myself at times smiling at the banter between Hetch and Liberty. Hetch is all alpha male but carries around guilt, anger, and feelings he is not even aware of at times from his fathers suicide. He’s absolutely one of my favorite male characters River Savage has introduced us to to date. This book is emotional and heartbreaking at times and will have you on the edge of your seat.

I am a huge River Savage fan. I’ve read everything she has ever written but Hetch in my opinion is some of her best writing. She blew me away and I’m in awe of her talent. I could feel the emotions pouring off the pages. You can feel just how invested she is in this story. I look very forward to the next book in this series and seeing which team member and where she takes us with in the next book in the Men Of Swat Series. Don’t miss Hetch. It’s certainly a book you do not want to miss.

Carla’s 5 Star Review:

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

This is the first book in the Men of S.W.A.T series, and it is the story of Hetch and Liberty.
**Warning-this book deals with suicide and it’s aftermath**

Life for Liam Hetcherson aka “Hetch” is stressful. He is the leader of a S.W.A.T unit and often finds himself trying to talk people down in hostage/suicide situations. Why does he do it? He has dealt with suicide in his personal life, and that has shaped him into the man he is today. When his new neighbor leaves a note on his door asking him to keep the noise down from his night time “proclivities”, he is intrigued. One night while at a local bar, a beautiful blonde catches his attention. Imagine his surprise when he discovers that this woman and his nosy neighbor are one in the same.

Liberty works with troubled youth. She has a huge heart and goes above the call of duty to ensure her “boys” stay on the straight and narrow. Basically, her life is her job. Until Hetch. At first, she tries her best to steer clear of him. After he comes to her rescue one night, she finally gives in. As the two of them spend more and more time together, their feelings for one another grow. As their relationship evolves, Liberty soon learns that Hetch is haunted by demons from his past. Is her love strong enough to convince him to finally accept what happened in the past and embrace the future?

I am a huge River Savage fan, so I was beyond excited to read this book! I am happy to say that it didn’t disappoint! I fell head over heels for Hetch and Liberty! Their back and forth banter was hilarious, and the chemistry that sparked between them could easily burn the house down! I thought the way River dealt with the heavy topic of suicide was sensitive and on point. If you are looking for a powerful and emotional read, this is the book for you!!

Stephanie’s 3 Star Review

I received a copy of this book by the author for an honest review.

The synopsis was quite intriguing when I looked at the sign up for this request.  I’ve not read River’s other books so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Unfortunately this book was not for me.  I almost didn’t bother finishing until I called one of the other reviewers and said tell me about this book.  I had only made it to around 18% or so and after that phone call I skipped to 74% to finish the rest.

So Hetch is a hostage negotiator for S.W.A.T.  He’s excellent at what he does and has a real knack for talking people down.  He’s been able to talk most everyone down except one person that meant the most to him and it’s haunted him for years.

Liberty and Hetch meet at a bar – and are hot and heavy for each other from the start.  They definitely have the right amount of chemistry.  But will that be enough to sustain them?

I think it would definitely be difficult to date/fall in love/have a long term relationship with an officer of the law.  They face dangers daily we don’t even want to know about.  Liberty definitely has her work cut out for her.

The difficult part for me with this book was it just seemed to drag on.  I’m not sure if it was the mood I was in or what – but it was moving at a snails pace for me.  The last 26% went by in a flash.

Give it a try.  Hetch just might be the negotiator for you.
