She snarls those words at him with barely concealed hostility the moment he arrives at her window to ask for her license and registration.

After a few choice words, he lets her go with not one ticket, but three.

Next time she should check the attitude at the door and realize that he’s a cop, and just doing his job.

Come get some.

Fast forward a week, and he’s still unable to think about anything else but her and her bad attitude—oh, and those sexy lips, angry eyes, and her promise to make his life hell.

Knowing he should stay away, he takes a step back and tries not to think about anything that has to do with those long legs, and that mouth that could be used for much better things than spewing venom.

Then she makes a mistake.

At an interview, she rattles off a random number to use as a reference for a job that she desperately needs, and that number just happens to be Johnny’s.

She’ll regret being so rude, and one day she’ll think twice when she decides to throw attitude toward a man like him.

Vowing to make her life hell, he decides to have a little fun.

Never get enough.

What he doesn’t expect is to fall for her.

The more Johnny learns about June, the deeper he digs his hole. Soon, he doesn’t know which way is up, and he’s just fine with that.

Over time, he learns that not everyone bothers to dig past her prickly demeanor and get to the woman that lives deeper.

When one too many citizens of Hostel, Texas tries to back her against the wall, he’s had enough.

After all, you don’t mess with what’s his.

I am so in love with Johnny and June. And as I always say, one of the best things about reading a Lani Lynn Vale book is all of the amazing little tidbits that will have you laughing under each chapter number. I always look so forward to them. Johnny is home from the Army and has been medically discharged and is angry about it too. His parents seem to be hovering and he just needs to change his scenery and get a job. This leads him to Hostel, Texas and he gets a job with the Hostel PD. This is a tiny town where everyone knows everything there is to know about everyone else and the most hated person in the town is June Common. June knows how the town feels about her and her life is not easy. Her parents are pure trash by the way, and I hated them. They are the reason everyone in town thinks that June is trash. They are drug addicted people who didn’t give a crap about her. Thank God for her Grandfather Tennessee who helped to make her the woman she is today. When your the most hated person in town with a record because as a teen your arrested it makes finding a job impossible and June has a degree in criminal justice. While filling out a application her roommate tells her just to make up a name and number because no one ever checks those. However the guy she applied for a job with does and the day before Johnny had written June three tickets and met her and her spunky not so nice attitude. He could do some damage with giving a reference but he doesn’t and starts to learn more about June, the girl he can not get out of his head. I loved this story. It was a quick read because it was one that I didn’t want to put down at all. There is a lot that goes on in this book but most of all I loved watching June come more into her own, to learn what a family really is and fall in love with Johnny. This is one book that you do not want to miss. You’ll probably be like me and devour it. I can not wait for the next book in this series which is Coke’s story. You will learn who he is in this book and will be just excited as I am to get his story too.

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.
