Dane James worked my stepfather’s fields. He was the boy next door.

Strong.

Hardworking.

Forbidden.

From the moment we met, we were star-crossed lovers—always wanting, never having. We loved each other for most of our lives, but right from the beginning destiny had other plans. She knew we would fall in love. She knew we would fall apart. Over and over again, like the curse of a recurring nightmare. Or the hope of a familiar dream.

Our past was tumultuous. Our future was bleak. But the one thing we always had was the beautiful now.

Until that was taken from us, too.

Stephanie’s 5 Star Review:

I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

M. Leighton has done it again.  She made me cry.  Dagnabit.  (Yes, that’s a word.)  This story is beautiful.  I don’t just mean in the title either.  We have, at the start, two young kids learning the way of the world in a small town full of pretentious people.  You’re either a have or a have not.

Brinkley is trying to find her way in a new town.  New town means new rules and a hateful stepfather.  Dane James is the only person who makes her feel at home.  He’s forbidden, though.  That’s according to her new stepfather.

I want to tell you this story is all unicorns and rainbows.  It’s not.  I want to tell you this is a completely out of this world fictional story.  It is but it isn’t.  There are so many people that will be able to relate to the characters in this story.  Your heart will just go out to them.  Brinkley and Dane are just two individuals trying to find their way in the world.

Gosh I don’t even think I can give you details of the story without spoiling it for you.  I won’t do that.  It’s absolutely beautiful.  I felt anger, sadness, and joy while reading this book.  I was really aggravated by Brinkley’s mother.  Ugh…just thinking about what she did in this book makes me aggravated all over again.

For this book – I say just buy it.  Just buy it and see for yourself.  I hope you’re equally moved as I was reading The Beautiful Now.

✩ “The Beautiful Now is exactly that – Beautiful. It’s love story of epic proportions.” — Courtney

✩ “What I loved was that their story transcends the span of 22 years and shows that love can last forever even when all the odds are stacked against you. That there is always a way even when we think all hope is lost. That even when we do what we think is best and hurt the ones we love that their is forgiveness to be found and second chances are a blessing not to be taken lightly. And when faced with the harsh realities of life, love can still prevail over all.” — Jennifer
✩ “I started reading – and I kept on reading. I couldn’t stop. It was all so heartbreakingly sad and beautiful and sweet and frustrating and I just could not stop.” — Bianca
