My life is like a coin.
There are two sides.

On one side, I am Leela Walsh: daughter, sister, employee at three minimum-wage jobs.
I cook. Do laundry. Contribute to the debt my family is sinking in.

On the second side, I am Leela Walsh: Straight-A student, top graduate of my class, med student.
No one knows of my brother’s sordid past. My sister’s poor decisions. Or that I’m the first in my family to graduate high school.

The balance between these two sides is nearly impossible to maintain. And it only becomes more difficult when I meet Wes McCleary.

He’s never had a job. Never wanted for anything.
And now, he wants me.

There are a thousand reasons we shouldn’t be together, and just one that keeps bringing us together.

Will that one reason be enough?

I received a free copy of this book from the author.

So there a woman named Leela who wants to be a doctor. She and a guy named Max are in school together and Max happens to introduce her to his friend and their classmate Wes. A Thousand Reasons chronicles the getting to know you part of Leela and Wes’s relationship.

As the story goes these two are from different worlds. Leela does not come from a wealthy family nor does she live in the best neighborhood. She has helped both her parents with household bills since she was able to work plus she has an older brother and a younger sister. Wes is an only child of two wealthy doctors who are rarely ever home since they travel the world practicing medicine.

So you can see these characters might have a bit of a difference to overcome, right? Leela has the hardest time wrapping her head around it not mattering to Wes how much money she doesn’t have or where she lives. It’s not til one of her tutoring students, whose background is worse than hers, puts her in her place does she begin to believe she can move past the wealth and see Wes for Wes.

For some people, what their family thinks matters more than it probably should. This is Leela’s case and her parents, specifically her father and sister, make her feel like she doesn’t deserve a relationship with a guy like Wes. You might just want to strangle them as you read the story.

Towards the end of the book there’s acceptance. Leela and Wes get their happy ending and I think we’ll see more of them from coming books by the author.
