Madam X is the first book I’ve read by Jascinda Wilder and I wasn’t sure what to expect. I’ve always heard she was an awesome writer; her stories were amazing; yada yada yada. You know the drill. Everyone loves her so I must too, right?
Well…let’s just see.
I thought this book was very complicated. I enjoyed the characters but the story line was one big secret. I kept wanting to shake X to make her ask more questions. Who cares if that’s how it’s always been. ASK A QUESTION! This drove me nuts. Maybe because I wanted her to step out of her box so bad it aggravated me the most. I’m not sure.
The book was well written and the characters were definitely not ones I’ve read before. There’s so much I want to say about this particular book. The more I say, however, gives more of the story away. I will tell you that Madam X works with a bunch of entitled rich boys who she turns into self assured men in a matter of sessions. She’s good at what she does. No emotion is showed. She directs them. Gives them purpose and hasn’t ever really questioned her existence beyond what she’s been told. Until, one of her clients makes waves. Shakes up her world, her bubble, her safety net.
Watching Madam X come into some semblance of self was very frustrating but rewarding all the same. She’s a strong character. She’s extremely smart, very well read. She has everything, yet nothing, going for her.
What does that mean you ask? Well…that’s one for the book. There’s so many questions I have about this character. I was completely left hanging and definitely can’t wait for the next installment. Jascinda Wilder has created a fabulous series here – one that will keep you on your toes – definitely some WTF moments; and even those you want to just say RUN! Frustrating but rewarding all at the same time.
