Ruining Hattie by P. Rayne is now live!
A man with no limits is the most dangerous kind of threat.
When Trent Clarke caught me picking pockets at eleven, he didn’t turn me in. Instead, he took me under his wing and taught me that in this world, you take what you want and never look back.
He might have shaped me, but I built my empire of the most successful string of strip clubs on the West Coast.
Now that I have everything, it’s time to track down my deadbeat mother and remind her who she left behind. That is if the drugs didn’t kill her already.
But I don’t find the worn-down shell of the woman I remember. Instead, she has all the things she never managed to give me—the white picket fence, a family dog, even church on Sunday mornings.
The real kicker? She replaced me and raised the perfect daughter with all the care and love she never gave me.
A twisted need for revenge roars to life inside me, and I aim it at my mother’s precious stepdaughter—sweet, sheltered Hattie Sinclair.
At first, it’s purely about vengeance, pulling Hattie into the darkness to watch her innocence unravel piece by piece. But she becomes something more. Something dangerous. Something I can’t resist.
Until she becomes my obsession.
Renee’s Five Star Review
This is the story of Bastion and Hattie. She is a girl who leads a pretty quiet life. When her father has a car accent and has to move to a new state because he found a better job, there is not question in Hattie’s mind that she was following them. She lives a life that is quiet. Not going out and making friends. She goes to church and volunteers at a shop kitchen. She works in the factory as the youngest person there doing the books. Little does Hattie know that soon, life is going to take a complete turn and change. But, will that change be good for her? Bastion is a successful owner of night clubs. He lives and works in Seattle but his clubs are in different states too. He is content with his life. However, when he was young his life was a living nightmare. His mother was an addict. She did not work, she just was. Meanwhile, he was in a filthy apartment with no food and a mother who brings over strange men, or won’t wake up when he needs her too. One day, he knows he has to leave or terrible things will happen. He makes it on the streets for a while until a man finds him. That man is now who Bastion considers his father. But, when curiosity gets the better of him, he hires someone to check into his mom. He fully expected to not be surprised when he was told she had died. That is not at all what has happened. When Bastion learns the truth he is out to make his mom hurt in the worst way possible. That way, is Hattie.
That’s all I can tell you about this book. I want you to discover the secrets this book holds just like I did. Without knowing a thing. When I saw this book was coming out, I knew that I had to read it. I always love P. Rayne’s books. But I was so excited to get my hands on this book. This book did not disappoint. I loved Hattie and Bastion. She is a genuinely sweet innocent girl who is good to her core. She cares about people. She may not have a ton of life experience, but it was fine to watch her try new things for the first time. She had this internal struggle that I think a lot of people can relate to. She also thought is fierce and funny. She had me cracking up a time or three. She loved with her whole being and I just adored her. Bastion is a guy who has been though so much. He is good too. He just doesn’t see it at times. He too will have internal struggles and some of them are going to break your hearts. He is super great to his employee and cares about their well being. I loved the side of himself he discovered with Hattie even more. I know I made these characters sound like goody two shoes but I promise there not. This book will keep you guessing and reading because you have to know. For that reason I will say this book has some dark moments but it isn’t super dark. This is a book that you must read!!!
