SYNOPSIS:

As the son of an Irish mobster, Connor O’Neil spent his boyhood hiding from the horrors of his own home. His one reprieve was a girl he knew only as Evelyn, but even she was taken away. As a man, Connor is determined to stay away from his father’s business. With Sean, participation is not a request, but a demand. The truth is, Connor might be more like the evil he’s trying to hide away from than he would like to admit.

And he’s already spent years trying to cover the scars left over from the pain.

A chance encounter puts the lost girl from his past back on his path, and he no longer has a choice but to face the darkness he’s been ignoring for years.

Evelyn. Sasha. Slave.

She doesn’t really know who she is anymore.

Or maybe she does, and she doesn’t want to tell.

She isn’t the same as she once was—now a thing to be kept and maintained, shuffled from owner to owner until it was her time to go. She only became Connor’s because he took her when he knew she wasn’t his to take.

Except she isn’t Connor’s at all …

And he can’t keep her hidden forever.

~Inflict is a Standalone Romance with graphic depictions of violence, sexual scenes, dark elements and a HEA. It is not recommended for those under the age of 18.

*Carla’s Three Star Review

Connor O Neil comes from generations of Irish Mobsters. His father, Sean, is sick and demented, and he will stop at nothing to make a buck. As the story unfolds, we see Connor start to harden under the constant demands of his father. To avoid his father’s wrath, Connor keeps himself busy, and only deals with him when he is forced to. Now, that’s not to say that Connor cowers at his father’s feet in fear because that is so not the case. In order to survive in the cruel and sadistic world he resides him, Connor has learned how to play the game and survive.

When Connor’s father sends him on an assignment, Connor has no idea that his life is about to be turned upside down. After his assignment is completed , he finds a small, frail woman kneeling in the floor of a bedroom. At first, he isn’t sure what he can do to help her, but then she turns around and he sees green eyes that have haunted him ever since he was a young boy. The girl’s name is Evelyn, and she was his only childhood friend. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out just what kind of screwed up situation he has found himself in. One thing is for sure-he is not leaving that place without Evelyn. As these two spend more and more time together, a spark reignites the passion that these two have always felt for one another.

I loved the characters in this book, and they each really made an impression on me. From the beginning, it was obvious that Connor and Penny were made for one another. They had both been living by someone else’s rules for far too long, and they deserved their freedom! Overall, this was an okay read for me. I am not a fan of mobster/mafia reads, so that it why this was only a three star read for me.

Renee’s 4 Star Review:

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.

Connor O’Neil is the son of of an Irish Mobster. He spent his childhood hiding from the horrors in his own home. His saving grace from it all was a girl he knew only as a Evelyn. But, like everything else in his childhood, he was taken away. Connor is determined to stay away from his father Sean’s business but this father isn’t going to let that happen. Connor however might be more evil than he is willing to admit. He’s already spent years trying to cover the scars left over from his pain. Evelyn however is thrown back into his life and Connor has no choice but to face the darkness he has been ignoring for years. Evelyn though is a slave, and has no idea who she is anymore. She is a thing to be kept and maintained. Shuffled from owner to owner until it was her time to go. She is now only Connor’s becasue he took her when he knew she wasn’t his to take. Except she isn’t Connor’s at all….and he can’t keep her hidden away forever.

Buckle up and go on a ride with Conner and Penny. Good grief I am telling you now that you are going to hate, absolutely hate, Sean. How in the world, Irish mobster or not, can you treat your child the way Connor is treated? My poor heart just couldn’t take the way he was treated. No child should ever be treated the way he was. His only ray of sunshine is Evelyn who he meets by accident one day while out playing. Their both muddy messes and Connor knows he is in trouble if his dad sees him that dirty. Heartbreak number one. It’s awful what happens to Connor for simply being a boy and getting dirty from the rain soaked ground. Fast forward and Evelyn and Connor are once again in each others lives from the most unexpected circumstances. Both broken beyond repair these are two character’s you can not help but fall in love with. There is just no way you won’t fall in love with Connor from the get go. I know I did.

Inflict is a raw, gritty novel and Bethany-Kris did a great job with these two characters. I think I read with my heart in my throat more than a couple of times in this book.
