Synopsis:

The first time Logan ever saw Charlotte, she was staring up into the rain.

Logan is searching for direction when his new roommate makes that entrance. With a body of pure sin, giant bright eyes, and the voice of an angel, she has his attention immediately. But everything about Charlotte is also screaming “hands off.”

Charlotte is hiding. She made a life of pretending, and she is happy to keep it that way. Physically and emotionally scarred by the secrets of her past, the last thing she needs is a gorgeous roommate asking all the wrong questions. Their mutual attraction and devotion to music may be too strong to keep him at arms length, though.

Can they find a way to resolve the dissonance between them?

This book is intended for audiences 18+. It contains explicit language and sexual content.

Their First Meeting

Charlotte’s POV

So this is my new home, I thought when Eli stopped in front of the sort of standard-looking, modern, mid-rise building. A mix of stone and metal facade, it seemed nice. It was certainly nicer-looking that the decaying walk-up I just moved out of. The building was not some exorbitantly styled, ultra-modern showpiece either, which was a major comfort. I watched as Eli ran up to the glass doors and rang the buzzer. Somewhere up there, the sound was filling the apartment I would be living in. I couldn’t hear with Eli said into the little speaker, but he came jogging back to the car a second later, ready to unload.

I grabbed my duffle bag and backpack – the only items that had actually come with me on the flight here – from the back seat while Eli went to the driver’s door to pop the trunk. With both bags securely on my shoulders, I went to the back of the car and was surprised to find the trunk still firmly shut. I waited a second to see if Eli would unlatch it. And I waited.

“Nothing’s happening, E,” I called.

“Damn it,” he muttered, coming back towards me. “I got rear-ended a few weeks ago, and it keeps getting stuck since then.”

While he fussed with it, I let my attention wander to the block I was sure to become familiar with in the coming weeks. It looked like a pretty typical city street. Mostly apartments, form what I could tell. It was nothing spectacular, but I was more comfortable with it because of that. My attention moved upward to the dense clouds. Whether the stereotype that it was always raining in Seattle was true or not, it was certainly going to rain any minute. I loved seeing those heavy clouds. I had loved rain showers for years. Ever since…

A small, cool drop fell on my face, thankfully shaking me from that thought. It was starting. I reached out to feel more of the little warning droplets tickle my skin. With each one, I felt myself slipping into the tranquil comfort that rain always provided me.

In an instant, the sprinkle erupted into a full-out deluge. Heavy sheets of water fell onto me, but I made no move to run. I was lost somewhere between a memory and a dream. Everything had sort of stopped. Everything but the rain. I let myself float in that moment where I didn’t have to think or feel.

Then, something shockingly warm landed on my arm, startling me. I looked at the masculine hand there, following the path up a partially tattooed arm, and found myself looking into a pair of stunningly unique blue-green eyes.

And the world jumped back into focus.

I stared at him, astounded by my lack of discomfort despite his intense gaze. The rain was soaking his light brown hair, small beads of it tracing the masculine angles of his face. Although I had only seen a few pictures of him, I knew that the man standing before me was Logan, Eli’s best friend.

Breaking out of that moment, he grabbed my hand and led my into the building lobby. I looked around, noticing Eli was gone. He must have already gone inside and escaped the rain. Somehow, following Logan, I was happy to leave the easy numbness of the afternoon storm behind, too.

Inside, he stopped again. I watched as his eyes moved from mine, trailing down the length of my body. Nervous and unsure of what to do with myself, I ran my hand through the tangled mess of my soaked hair to get it out of my face. Whether my movement startled him out of his perusal, or if he had just finished, I didn’t know, but his attention moved to my bags.

“Here, let me take those,” he offered.

“Thanks,” I said. His warm smile caused one of my own to form, even if it also made me feel impossibly shy.

“The elevator is over here,” he directed. “We’re up on the fifth floor.”

Right. We. He was my new roommate.

And I was so screwed.
