A Curse of Fire by Sophia Shade Release Review

A magical calling card, a murderous secret, and an ancient, dangerous realm.

The Fae have been hunting Imogen’s mother for nearly eighteen years. She has something they want: her daughter. Now they’ve caught up with her, and Imogen’s faced with a choice: attend their fae college by choice…or by force.

That should’ve been enough warning that Callador, school for the fae, is a manipulative and dangerous place. But it’s not until the school is under attack and the students are facing death by curse that Imogen realizes Callador’s darkest secret isn’t how they get their students to attend.

You won’t want to fall behind on the series readers are calling a “brilliant, magical new world.”

Stephanie’s 4 Star Review:

I was given a copy of this book by the author.

This is the first book by Sophie Shade and what a book it is.  I really enjoyed these characters.  I reminded me of several other YA series I read that are more vampire in nature than fae.  So Imogene and her mother have been on the run for years.  I mean years!  You can see it in the blurb.

Well time has run out.  Imogene turned 18 and her mother’s secrets she’s held all her life are now being spilled.  It’s no wonder Imogene felt like she wasn’t the same as everyone else.  She’s a halfling.  Half human half fae.

So there’s this school for fae and halflings they attend when they come into their powers usually around 18 years of age.  And so she’s been recruited.  It’s there she realizes there’s more than meets the eye and some funny stuff is happening.

There’s also this guy.  Isn’t there always?  Well really, there’s two of them.  One is a better choice than the other but he’s royalty.  As far as she knows, Imogene is a peasant.  That won’t mix well.  No idea who her father is – the school does a magical test on her to find out what type of fae she is.  Turns out she’s a fire fae.  Oh but the fire she has.  Learning to control it is the biggest problem – or so she thinks.

There’s lots of stuff going on in this book. It will keep the pages turning.  I think you’ll enjoy reading this one.  It’s fast paced, intriguing and a who done it on top of it all a girl struggling to find her rightful place.  Aren’t we all?
